about

This album started out as a conceptual idea. It was based on a soundtrack for an imaginary film that dealt with life experiences of real people. Stories, letters, politics, current affairs, books and gossip were tapped in the development and eventual writing and production of the tracks below. I hope you find something interesting amongst them. ECOBASS(Record label)

1. AN INCIDENT AT THE SHRINE
This is about how often people look for solutions to life and its issues in the wrong places. At the shrine, or where you worship God, the Devil, sex or alcohol there are no gods but passages. You get the answers you want from the questions you ask.

2. BOUGAINVILLEA IN VASE
The colour and allure of bougainvillea in a ceramic vase outside a small hotel in Tenerife is……………

3. I REMEMBER HALIMA (KASTINA A LA MODE)
This is a story about a man who remembers seeing a beautiful lady on a bus but misses the opportunity to talk to her and bear his soul, of love. To deal with his blues he invents the name Halima to give his anguish, a respite.

4. IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW ME WELL
A girl reprimands a lover whom she does not love anymore. Here, she is reminding him that she only knew him for a an hour on one day, in the heady spring of June.

5. MANGALA (BOKO NO GO)
An overview of the pain and disquiet caused by man’s inhumanity to man. A poem for the North, Chad and Sudan.

6. REFLECTIONS ON PATRICIDE
This is about memories and memorials. In this regard prisoner reflects on the fact that he killed his father.

7. REPLAY MR. M
This is about knowing when to stop begging, fighting, and humiliating yourself. A driver bemoans his fate as he pleads with his millionaire employer for his minimum wage packet.

8. THE PROBLEM IS YOU
It is about facing the fact that after a certain age the trouble with life is that you are still living. You are the problem in your own life, other people are mostly just excuses for your mediocrity.

9. TRANS-EKULU EXPRESS. HOUSE A
If a house was a person what tribe or name will it choose to be or be called? This is also about a road that leads to the house whose number we know and whose purpose is to trap people.

about

eze chimalio/msb ensemble London, UK

.Eze Chimalio is an artist/writer/filmmaker and a self-taught trumpeter. A former tenor saxophonist with the Don Asante underground quintet who split before recording any music. After that he sold his sax for a trumpet, with the sole intention of teaching himself to play it. Unconventional, radical, he approaches the trumpet like a paintbrush for sound canvas. Love is horn, he says. ECOBASS ... more
